Welcome to the Aubergine Tattoo

About Us

We are trying our best to make Aubergine tattoo a friendly, cute tattoo space and a little nest for talented artists.

Aubergine tattoo is committed to providing a place in which

Beautiful tattoos happen

A space where the artist can focus on clients in a calm and consensual environment.

Clients feel treated with respect.

Artists can work in a sustainable way.

A sober environment.

We are looking forward to meeting you.

How do I book?

The best way is to send an email enquiry in our contact section here on the website or send an email at: auberginetattoo@googlemail.com. Do you have a particular Tattooer who you would like to contact and whose work you enjoy? Great! You can reach them directly on their email and social media here, through the artists page.

Some helpful information that you can include in your request is: What tattoo would you like to have? What feeling do you want the tattoo to represent or convey? Is it your favourite animal, childhood memory, a memorial tattoo for example.  Do you have any inspiration references you can also send? What is the size and placement you were thinking of (no problem if you’re not sure yet we can work that out together on the day of your appointment). Are you interested in colour or black work? Please let us also know the dates of your availability. Our working hours are usually between 12 midday and 19:00 in the evening. Please note appointments are given at 12 O’Clock, we prefer not to give evening appointments and work through the night.

Usually for a smaller tattoo we can make the design with you together on the day. This is because these tattoos usually have specific meanings and details which are easier to work with the client on the day of the appointment.

For a bigger tattoo it’s often better to have a consultation appointment beforehand to discuss and plan how the tattoo can be made. This helps us before we begin the long process of drawing your tattoo design. Consultations are free of charge and are something we offer to our clients to inform them of suggestions and to see if the artist and client are compatible for the project.

If you don’t have a clear idea, no problem we have a lot of designs available in our galleries. Pre-made tattoo designs are called Tattoo flash. If you are booking a flash design you can usually set up an appointment without a consultation.

During the consultation in person or per email we can offer you a price range for the piece. This is usually a price span of how much it might cost depending on the time details and placing and also the amount of changes that need to be made to the design.

For all Tattoo appointments we take a deposit. This is to pay for any costs due to cancellations and acts as an insurance which makes sure your appointment is secure for the day.

This deposit will be taken from the final price of the tattoo, or on the final session of the tattoo. Most deposits range in price from 50 to 200 euros depending on the complexity of the design. Please inform us a minimum of three days before your appointment if you need to cancel or move the appointment in order not to lose the deposit.

What do I need for my appointment?

Here are my top tips for a great Tattoo appointment:

Please come well rested and sober to your appointment.

Eat something before your appointment and bring along a snack as it might be a long session and keeping your energy levels up is important.

If possible please wear comfy black or dark clothes to the appointment this is to prevent ink splatters and also as a neutral background for photos.

We have water and tea refreshments here at the shop.

Try to take the entire day of the appointment free if possible, so you and your artist can work without time pressure to create your tattoo.

We are a shoe free space, to keep our space hygienic, we have slippers available here or feel free to bring your own, also just socks are fine.

There is always time on the day to make small changes to the design on paper before you begin.

Most artists show the design to the client on the day of the tattoo and any changes can be made together.

Any client can change their mind about getting their tattoo on the day or if they are unsure. Please remember the tattoo artist may keep the deposit if a design was made in preparation for the appointment.

Our shop is wheelchair accessible, if you need any other further assistance please get in touch with us beforehand.

You’re welcome to bring along someone with you to the appointment and also have the person pick you up afterwards. We kindly ask that the person does not wait during the actual tattoo session in the shop out of respect for the interaction between artist and client.

We strive to make Aubergine Tattoo a welcoming space for all  kinds of bodies.

How do I get there?

We are reachable by Public transport at the U7 stop at Rathaus Neukölln or at the stop of the 166 and M43 Bus on the Sonnenallee corner of Innstr. How do I take care of my Tattoo?

Here’s a resource we put together for aftercare of your tattoo:

Your tattooer will usually cover your new tattoo in a second skin plaster. The plaster allows for moisture to exit the wound while stopping water from entering the plaster. You may notice some seepage and ink liquid under your plaster, which will evaporate over the next day or two. Please don’t worry your tattoo is ok.

Please refrain from sports while wearing the second skin to prevent excessive liquid from sweat while the plaster is on.

Remove the plaster after three or four days, carefully under the shower, using lots of soap and warm water. Do not be alarmed if you notice a slimy substance this is a combination of sweat, ink, blood product and protein deposits from the healing process.

Pat down with a clean towel and let it air dry for 30 to 60 minutes.

The tattoo is still not yet fully healed and you will have to take care. Apply a thin layer of ointment: (hustler butter, pegasus cream, bepanthen ointment) to minimally moisten the entire area. Please wash your hands beforehand. Don’t over apply the ointment as it will clog pores and thwart the repair process of the skin, resulting in slower healing and rashes.

Continue applying the cream twice a day for a total of seven days and then switch to a light moisturiser like Nivea.

The skin will start to peel much like after a sunburn, there may also be light scabbing in some areas of the Tattoo. Please do not worry this is absolutely normal.

In the next 14 days after the Tattoo it’s essential that you do not do any sunbathing, swimming, or use your own jacuzzi or sauna at home. Limit sweating due to sports in the first 10 days after getting the tattoo.

The total healing time of the Tattoo is three weeks to a month. Please be patient during this process.

Some areas of the tattoo maybe raised or the new skin.

Commonly asked questions

How much is a tattoo?

Tattoos are usually priced according to size and design. Different factors affect the end pricing these are: The size of the tattoo, the complexity of the design, the placement, the client’s pain tolerance, and if there are repeated changes to the design. This is why artists usually give a price estimate for each piece within a certain price range. The price of the tattoo covers not only the Tattoo on the day but the tender work of managing the booking request, consultation, the designs planning, the actual time spent hand drawing the tattoo overheads and supplies.

The hourly rates for tattoos in Berlin lies around the 100 to 150 euro mark. For bigger pieces artists set prices for day sessions. We can tell you a price estimate before we begin the tattoo.

Can I tattoo over scars/ veins/ stretch marks:

Tattooing over these areas can be tricky as the skin structure is more delicate and it has tendency for the ink to be lost during this area during the healing process. Also these areas are susceptible to “blow out’s” where the skin leaves a darker area under the skin, where the ink has spread out beyond the line and does not look like a quality tattoo- Therefore these areas can be tattooed but require more attention and care and usually more Tattoo sessions. Please be aware that a scar needs to be at least one year old before considering tattooing over the area.

I want to cover up a tattoo.

Cover up Tattoos require a very high level of skill on the part of the tattooer. Please remember that these types of tattoos can be more time consuming and require a greater amount of tattoo sessions. Not all designs are suitable as cover ups. Please meet and chat with your artist personally and consult with them.

I want a finger tattoo

We don’t make tattoos on the fingers or toes as in our experience these tattoos did not remain after healing and the clients are not satisfied.

Can you send me the design before the appointment?

Most artist’s show the design to the client on the day of the Tattoo appointment; this helps the artist work with the client to make changes. It tends to be more effective to work out these details in person and seeing it on the actual body and skin can give a better impression of how the piece is fitting. Time for these alterations are planned into the appointment. Please refrain from sending further references after the initial consultation as this can be confusing for the artist.

Thanks for taking the time to read this information.

Cristina

Resident Tattooist

Hi, I’m Cristina. I’m a tattooer based in Berlin. I was born in Cuneo-Italy. Since a young age, I’ve always loved to draw and had an interest in pretty much all kinds of artistic media since. My interest brought me to study art at the art highschool and later on at the Art Academy of Turin, where I lived after graduation and also started my tattoo journey… (the most exciting part of my exploration into art)  I learned how to tattoo and the basics of hygiene at „Sacra Pelle“ tattoo studio. Meanwhile I grew my practice  beginning with family and friends, and later with clients of the shop. Slowly climbing the ranks by the old way: Learning by doing. After I moved to Berlin I finally started my big step into the unknown, which was officially working as a tattoo artist in 2017 in my new home. Ever since I am happily giving my art and my handcraft to clients here in the city. I am a versatile artist and like to do many kinds of styles. I always take good care in preparing my custom designs and preparatory sketches to match my customers ideas and wishes. I am looking forward to meeting you and giving a part of me to you, that will I hope will offer happiness, living and getting old with you. 🤍
